DSS Arrests Man Accused Of Impersonating Personnel In Abuja
The Department of State Services has arrested a man accused of posing as one of its personnel and allegedly extorting motorists in Abuja.
The suspect, identified in the reports as Moferewa Maiye from Agbajojun Village in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, was arrested late Wednesday around NITEL Junction on Adetokunbo Ademola Way, Wuse II.
Security sources said he was found with a DSS tactical uniform and a fake pistol. The allegation is that he used the uniform and weapon to intimidate commuters and motorists and collect money from them.
Maiye reportedly told investigators that the kit belonged to his late brother, Monday Maiye, whom he described as a DSS officer. Investigators are now checking how he got the uniform and how long he may have been using it.
The case adds to repeated warnings from security agencies about people using fake official identities to harass the public. The suspect remained in custody while interrogation continued.
