A 55-year-old driver escaped without injury after a train hit his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos, leaving the vehicle extensively damaged.
The train was travelling towards Agege when it collided with the car, which had registration number EKY 902 JT. Traffic remained congested around PWD after the railway line was cleared.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed the collision in a statement signed on Friday by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq. The agency said no casualty was recorded at the scene.
Channels Television reported that an earlier traffic update at 7:20am said onlookers had pushed the car off the tracks while officers managed traffic and emergency responders attended to the incident.
LASTMA said its officials and security personnel rescued the driver and helped remove the damaged vehicle, allowing the train to continue towards Agege. The wrecked car was handed over to security personnel for an investigation into the cause of the collision.
The agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the response and urged drivers to take care at railway crossings. He warned motorists against attempting to cross tracks when a train was approaching or already moving through the crossing.
