Davido Uses World Cup Concert Stage to Spotlight Abducted Oyo Pupils

Davido turned a global music appearance into a message on Nigeria’s insecurity crisis after using the 2026 FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert stage to draw attention to abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oyo State.

According to Daily Post and Channels TV, the Afrobeats star performed at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles wearing a custom jacket bearing the names of abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area. The jacket also carried the message, “Bring Them Home.”

Channels TV reported that Davido appeared at the concert alongside America Foster, Major Lazer and Diplo as part of the multinational events marking the build-up to the 2026 World Cup. The performance placed a Nigerian security concern before an international audience beyond the usual domestic news cycle.

The Oyo school abduction had already triggered public outrage, with reports saying pupils and teachers were taken during an attack in Oriire. Davido’s gesture shifted the story into the entertainment space, showing how Nigerian artists are increasingly using international stages to raise social and political concerns.

The singer had also previously called attention to kidnapping and insecurity on social media, urging entertainers to speak up. His World Cup concert appearance now gives that message a stronger visual symbol, especially because it tied the names of victims directly to a global sporting and music event.

For fans, the moment also underlined Afrobeats’ widening global visibility: Nigerian artists are no longer just performing at major international events; they are also carrying Nigerian issues onto those stages.
