Court reserves ruling on Euracare bid to stop Chimamanda son’s inquest
A Lagos High Court in Ikoyi has reserved October 12, 2026, to rule on Euracare’s bid to stop the coroner’s inquest into the death of Nkanu Adichie-Esege, son of Chimamanda Adichie and Dr Ivara Esege.
Eurapharma Care Services Nigeria Limited, operators of Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital, is asking the court to quash decisions already made in the inquest and restrain the coroner from continuing with the proceedings.
The hospital’s lawyer argued that the order of evidence could breach fair-hearing rights if Euracare and its personnel are required to begin before the family presents its allegations. The hospital is also challenging whether the coroner can continue after Nkanu’s remains were cremated.
The family and the Lagos State Government opposed the application. Premium Times reported that the family’s lawyer described the case as premature because no witness had testified and no substantive finding had been made by the coroner.
Channels Television reported that Nkanu died on January 7, 2026, at Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital in Lagos while receiving medical treatment. Euracare has denied allegations of medical negligence.
