Court Remands Blogger Over Defamatory Story Against Soludo Family
A magistrates’ court in Awka has remanded blogger Ejike Ofoegbu over alleged false and defamatory reports targeting Governor Charles Soludo and members of his family.
Ofoegbu, publisher of Igbo Times Magazine and iNews, was brought before the court on Monday after police investigations. The case centres on publications the authorities say were fabricated and damaging to the governor’s family.
Premium Times reported that Chief Magistrate C.O. Ezekwere ordered the case file to be sent to the Anambra Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice. The magistrate also advised Ofoegbu to seek bail at the High Court, saying the magistrates’ court could not handle the bail application.
Channels TV also reported the arraignment, citing the Anambra Police Command. The report said Ofoegbu was remanded at the Anambra State Correctional Centre in Amawbia pending further hearing.
The matter was adjourned until July 27 for a compliance report, according to Premium Times.
