A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency to produce Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, popularly known as KayCee Luxury, in court over his continued detention.

The order followed an ex parte application filed by his lawyer, A. Labi-Lawal, SAN, under the Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure Rules. The application challenged his detention after more than 14 days in custody without formal charge or arraignment.

Vanguard reported that the court directed the NDLEA to bring Afolabi before it so the matter could be heard. Daily Post also reported the order and linked it to the agency’s failure to formally charge and arraign him within the period cited by his legal team.

The case follows the NDLEA’s earlier announcement that the Lagos-based socialite was arrested in connection with a 184.5kg cocaine consignment valued at about N39 billion. Daily Post reported that he was arrested at the Lagos airport while allegedly attempting to travel to Paris.

The court order does not amount to a finding on the allegations against him. It requires the agency to produce him before the court for the rights application to be considered.
