Court Jails 12 For Naira Abuse At Delta Party

A Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, has convicted 12 people for abusing the naira by spraying banknotes at a party.

The defendants were prosecuted by the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after they were accused of tampering with naira notes while dancing.

Premium Times and Punch reported that Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa convicted the defendants after guilty pleas and sentenced them to six months’ imprisonment, with an option of fine.

The names listed in the reports include Abimbola Dolapo, Ufuoma Okotie, Samuel Kingsley, Rasaki Ayomide and others charged in the same case.

The EFCC has continued to bring naira abuse cases under currency protection rules, especially where videos or event photos show banknotes being sprayed or stepped on.
