Court Grants Ex-CCT Chairman Danladi Umar N100m Bail

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama has granted N100 million bail to former Code of Conduct Tribunal chairman Danladi Umar.

Justice Peter Kekemeke gave the ruling on Wednesday, six days after Umar was remanded in prison custody following his arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The court ordered Umar to provide one surety in the same amount. Vanguard reported that the surety must own property in Abuja, depose to an affidavit of means, and provide evidence of tax payment.

Umar is facing a four-count corruption charge linked to allegations that he used his former office to give himself an undue advantage while serving as CCT chairman and chairman of its tender board. He has pleaded not guilty.

The judge also ordered him to surrender his international passport and barred him from travelling out of the country without the court’s permission. Vanguard reported that the case was adjourned to October 29 for trial.
