Communication scholar Idowu Sobowale dies at 85
Professor Idowu Akanbi Sobowale, a communication scholar and veteran journalist, has died at the age of 85.
His family announced that he died on Thursday morning, October 8, 2026. Details of his funeral arrangements will be released later.
Punch and Vanguard identified Akinniyi Sowunmi as the family member who issued a statement titled “Transition to Glory”. Daily Post attributed the announcement to Sobowale’s son, Richard Adeyinka Emmanuel.
Sowunmi described the death as a loss to Nigeria’s communication community, particularly the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals in Nigeria, according to Punch and Vanguard.
