Bauchi Police Arrest Two Over Alleged Cattle Theft, Bribe Attempt

Bauchi police have arrested two men over alleged possession of stolen cattle and an attempt to stop the investigation with a N400,000 bribe.

The arrests were made in Alkaleri Local Government Area after two residents of Yalo Village reported that 103 cattle had been rustled by unknown gunmen in July 2026.

The suspects were named as Abdullahi Adamu, 26, and Muktashir Idris, 20, both from Jarmai Village in Dangi Local Government Area of Plateau State. Police said the complainants reported the matter at the Alkaleri Divisional Headquarters on August 6.

Investigators later traced the movement of the animals to Mararaban Liman Katagum, where the complainants identified three of the missing cattle. A traditional ruler then assisted police in arresting the two suspects on August 7.

According to the Bauchi police command, Idris allegedly told investigators that his master, identified only as Alaba, sent him to sell the stolen cattle. Police said the case also uncovered an alleged attempt to compromise the investigation with N400,000, which has now been recovered as an exhibit.
