Suspected bandits killed a man and abducted residents during an attack on Babban Saura community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The attack happened at about 1 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, when the assailants invaded three houses in the community, according to the accounts reported by Daily Post and Daily Trust.
The reports identified the slain resident as Sikiru. He was said to have resisted the attackers after they broke into his compound before he was shot dead. His wife and two children were taken away.
The attackers also abducted two children from an elderly man’s home and took a woman, Maman Mubarak, and her four children from a neighbouring house. Local vigilantes and soldiers later rescued Maman Mubarak, while the other victims remained in captivity at the time of the reports.
The reports quoted local vigilante commander Usman Adamu as saying nine people were initially abducted, although their accounts of those taken from the three houses totalled ten. The figures could not be reconciled from the published accounts.
Daily Trust said the Kaduna State Police Command had not responded to its enquiries at the time of publication.
