Bandits Kill Driver, Abduct Nine Travellers And Farmers In Kaduna
Armed men suspected to be bandits have killed a commercial driver and abducted nine people in separate attacks around the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway and nearby farming communities.
Platform Times identified the slain driver as Mallam Ibrahim Adamu and reported that he was killed at the Kwanan Giginya axis of the highway when gunmen opened fire on a commercial vehicle. The report said about five occupants of the vehicle were taken away after the shooting.
SaharaReporters carried the same incident, identifying Adamu as a grandson of a district head in the Birnin Gwari Emirate. It also reported that four farmers were abducted in a separate attack in the Kurgi area of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
The attacks add to renewed pressure on communities along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari corridor, one of the routes that has repeatedly drawn security concerns from residents and travellers in Kaduna State.
A follow-up report by SaharaReporters said the killing and abductions triggered protests in Birnin Gwari town, where residents objected to the activities of so-called repentant bandits. Security forces and community leaders were later said to have intervened to prevent further escalation.
