Army Intercepts Suspected Arms Traffickers In Kaduna
Troops of Sector 7, Operation Enduring Peace, have intercepted suspected arms traffickers in Kaduna State and recovered seven illegal firearms.
The Army said the operation took place at the Samaru checkpoint in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area after intelligence on the movement of weapons from Jos, Plateau State, to Niger State.
Punch reported that troops recovered three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and four submachine guns hidden in an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz. One suspect was shot while trying to flee and was taken to the Sector 7 Medical Centre in Kafanchan for treatment.
Daily Post also reported the interception, citing security analyst Zagazola Makama. The report said the weapons were allegedly being moved to bandits before troops stopped the vehicle.
The Army said preliminary findings linked the weapons to suspected arms dealers based in Jos and an intended recipient in Niger State.
