Army GOC Pledges Neutral Security Operations As Plateau Leaders Seek Peace
The General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Maxwell Dangana, has promised fair and neutral security operations in Plateau State as community leaders renewed calls for lasting peace.
Dangana, who also commands Operation Enduring Peace, gave the assurance during a stakeholders’ meeting at the 3 Division headquarters in Jos.
The meeting brought together traditional rulers, security chiefs, government officials, cultural associations and local government chairmen to discuss Plateau’s security situation.
Dangana said the army and other security agencies under his command would not show preference to any ethnic, religious, political or social group. “Our allegiance is to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and our responsibility is to protect every innocent citizen,” he said.
He said killings, reprisals, kidnappings, cattle rustling and destruction of farmlands had continued to hurt communities in the state, and urged residents and leaders to reject the cycle of violence.
