Army Dismantles Illegal Bunkering Site, Arrests Six Suspects In Lagos
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 65 Battalion have arrested six suspects after dismantling a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile area of Lagos State.
The army said the raid took place on July 16 after intelligence on suspected economic saboteurs operating in the area. The operation led to the recovery of four drums, including two containing suspected illegally refined petroleum products.
A white Ford bus and a tanker suspected to have been used in the operation were also seized.
The Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, said the suspects and recovered items were handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The army said the Commanding Officer of 65 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, carried out the handover to the NSCDC.
Major General Adebayo Babalola, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, commended the troops and said the division would continue operations aimed at protecting national assets and checking oil theft.
