Army Confirms Colonel Killed In Abuja-Area Kidnap Attempt
The military has confirmed the killing of Col Abdussalam A. Ude after gunmen attacked his home in a suspected kidnap attempt around the Abuja-Nasarawa border.
The attack happened on Monday night at Badna in New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, a community close to the Federal Capital Territory. Early accounts placed the incident in Abuja, but Punch reported that the FCT police said the area was outside their command’s jurisdiction.
Premium Times reported that the army confirmed the officer’s death. Punch, citing residents and security contacts, said the attackers stormed Ude’s residence during rainfall, tried to abduct him and shot him after he resisted.
A local account said police later visited the scene and moved the body to a morgue. The killing adds to worries about armed attacks in communities around the FCT boundary, where residents often move between Abuja and neighbouring Nasarawa for work and housing.
