Akwa Ibom Police Say Kidnapping Plot Foiled In Oron Waterways
Akwa Ibom police say they have foiled a planned kidnapping operation in the Oron waterways and recovered weapons, ammunition and speedboats.
The command said operatives of the Marine Police in Oron acted on intelligence and worked with Marine Hunters to raid a suspected criminal camp along the Calabar-Oron Channel.
Police spokesperson DSP Timfon John said the operation targeted a syndicate allegedly preparing to carry out a kidnapping in the Oron axis. The recovered items included firearms, ammunition and speedboats said to have been used by the group.
Daily Post also reported the same operation, saying the police described it as part of efforts to disrupt criminal activity around riverine communities in the state.
The command did not give the names of suspects in the reports, and it was not immediately clear whether arrests were made during the raid. Police Commissioner Baba Mohammed Azare said the command would continue operations around coastal communities and waterways.
