Airtel and Glo Resume Airtime Lending After Court Blocks FCCPC Suspension

Airtel Nigeria and Globacom have resumed airtime lending after a Federal High Court ruling stopped the FCCPC from enforcing its suspension order.

The telcos had suspended airtime credit services for about six weeks following the FCCPC’s directive. The court’s intervention has now restored access to Globacom’s “Borrow Me Credit” and Airtel’s airtime advance features — services millions of Nigerians depend on for emergency calls and data.

The FCCPC had ordered the suspension over concerns about the terms of the lending services. The telcos took the regulator to court, and the ruling went in their favour.

The suspension had left many stranded, unable to make calls or send texts in emergencies. The court ruling has restored access for millions who depend on these services.

MTN is also affected by the ruling and has been restoring services in compliance. The resolution ends a six-week disruption that had been one of the biggest talking points in the telecom sector.
