Adeleke Campaign Alleges Police Clampdown Plan Ahead Of Osun Poll

Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaign has accused police authorities in Osun State of preparing a clampdown on supporters ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Punch reported that the Imole Campaign Council alleged the command had drawn up a list of 46 people, including campaign figures, for possible arrest. The police dismissed the allegation in the same report.

Vanguard reported that the campaign council asked the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to ensure security neutrality before the election. The council’s deputy director-general, Kolapo Alimi, said residents should be protected during the poll period.

The police response in Punch rejected the clampdown claim and said the command was focused on its security duties. The reports did not show that any of the 46 people named by the campaign had been arrested over the allegation.

The dispute comes less than two weeks before the Osun governorship election, with security agencies under scrutiny from both the ruling party and opposition actors.
