Vehicles submerged by floodwater in Abuja.

A heavy downpour flooded parts of Abuja, leaving motorists stranded and submerging vehicles in several districts of the Federal Capital Territory.

The flooding affected parts of Wuse 1, Wuse 2, Durumi, Gaduwa and Gudu after rain overwhelmed roads and drainage channels. Residents said vehicles were stuck for hours in some areas, while some businesses had to shut temporarily.

Daily Trust reported that floodwater nearly submerged a bridge around the Diamond Bank area of Wuse 2 and that several vehicles parked at Delight Event Centre in Gudu were covered by water.

Daily Post also reported flooding in Wuse Zone 1, Katampe, Durumi, Gwarinpa, Gaduwa and Gudu, with residents and motorists stranded until the water receded.

The incident drew public complaints about blocked drainages and the conversion of green areas in the city. Some residents called for urgent work on drainage and flood control as the rainy season continues.
