Benue State has suspended the chairman and executive secretary of its Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board for three months while allegations against them are investigated.
The affected officials are Alhaji Abubakar Adamu, the board chairman, and Alhaji Ahmadu Alhassan, the executive secretary. The suspension took effect on Monday, September 21, 2026.
Commissioner for Information and Orientation Solomon Iorpev said petitions had accused the officials of misusing Hajj slot allocations and mismanaging funds. He said the petition against the executive secretary also alleged irregularities in the distribution of government palliatives.
The state appointed Ahmed Tijani Adamu as acting chairman and Adamu Salihu Babi as acting executive secretary. Iorpev said the suspension was not a finding of guilt, but was meant to allow a full investigation without interference.
