Awoniyi replaces injured Osimhen in Super Eagles squad

Taiwo Awoniyi has been called up to replace injured Victor Osimhen in Nigeria’s squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
The change gives coach Eric Chelle another senior forward option after Osimhen was ruled out of the qualifiers with an injury. NaijaTrend had earlier reported Osimhen’s withdrawal here.
Punch, Channels TV, Daily Post and Premium Times all reported the replacement on Sunday, identifying Awoniyi as the striker called into the squad.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to host Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on September 25 before travelling to face Guinea-Bissau four days later.
Awoniyi’s invitation comes after a difficult spell with injuries, but his Premier League and national-team experience give Nigeria another option in attack as the qualifiers approach.
