Nasiru Garba and Ibrahim Bala, named in the Plateau bus attack report

A survivor of the Plateau bus attack has described how he escaped after gunmen opened fire on a commercial vehicle at Dungus Junction in Kuru, Jos South. The account adds firsthand detail to the Plateau attacks NaijaTrend earlier reported here.

Daily Trust identified the survivor as Nasiru Garba and reported that nine passengers were killed after the driver stopped to drop off some passengers. Vanguard also reported Garba’s account and said the wider violence left 13 people dead across affected communities.

Garba said he hid inside the vehicle as the attackers approached and opened the front door. Daily Trust reported that the bus was left stained with blood and riddled with bullets after the attack.

The reports said the bus was heading to Jos when it came under attack on Sunday. Vanguard named the driver among those killed and said the survivor’s account came as residents continued to count the losses from attacks in Jos South, Mangu and Riyom.

The fresh account does not settle all casualty differences reported by outlets, but it gives a clearer picture of what happened at the Dungus Junction scene and why the incident has drawn renewed concern in Plateau.
