Troops have reported a fresh operation against suspected Lakurawa terrorists in Kebbi State, with weapons and ammunition recovered after an encounter in the north-west.

Daily Post and Vanguard both reported that troops under Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma killed several suspects and recovered arms during the operation. The recovered items included a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, magazines, ammunition belts and motorcycles.

The reports differed in the local details given for the encounter. Daily Post placed the operation in Kangiwa Local Government Area, while Vanguard reported that troops moved through terrorist enclaves around the Gumki area of Arewa Dandi Local Government Area near the Nigeria-Niger border.

Both accounts, however, matched on the central point: troops under the same operation engaged suspected Lakurawa fighters in Kebbi and recovered weapons after the clash.

The military said the operation was part of continuing efforts to clear terrorist hideouts and restore security in the area. Lakurawa activity has been a recurring concern in parts of the north-west, especially communities near border routes.
