Police arrest man accused of posing as okada rider in Bauchi

Police in Bauchi have arrested a 53-year-old man accused of posing as a commercial motorcyclist to target women in the state capital.

The suspect, named in the reports as Gambo Hassan, also known as Anahaka, was arrested on September 11 during a patrol along Adamu Jumba Road. Police said he was riding a Bajaj motorcycle and wearing a face mask and fez cap when officers stopped him.

The command accused him of involvement in kidnapping, rape, armed robbery and unlawful possession of an offensive weapon. Officers said a sharp knife was found with him at the point of arrest.

According to the police account carried by Vanguard and Daily Post, Hassan allegedly first led detectives to 15 women identified as victims, before the number later rose to 35. The allegations remain under investigation.

Detectives later searched his residence and said they recovered items suspected to be proceeds of crime, including 15 mobile phones, power banks, women’s wristwatches, native caps, wrappers, hijabs, ₦425,435 cash and foreign currency notes.

The suspect and the recovered items have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and possible prosecution.
