Military Says Airstrikes Kill More Than 18 Terrorists In Borno

The military says air and ground troops killed more than 18 terrorists during an operation at Tumbunma Baba in the Tumbuns area of Borno State.

The operation was carried out in the early hours of September 11 after intelligence pointed to a gathering point and logistics base used by terrorist elements, according to the task force.

Mohammed Goni, spokesperson for the North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, said surveillance that began on September 9 identified structures and logistics hubs in the island area. He said air platforms later struck the targets while ground troops blocked likely escape routes.

The military said the strikes destroyed targeted structures and disrupted the group’s ability to use the location as a meeting and support base. It also put the post-strike assessment at about 85 per cent success against the intended objectives.

Both reports identified Tumbunma Baba, Operation Hadin Kai and the same reported toll of more than 18 killed. NaijaTrend’s earlier Borno airstrike coverage concerned a different August operation, not this September 11 strike.
