Cross River Cancels LG Recruitment, Approves Fresh 4,000 Jobs
The Cross River State Government has cancelled a disputed local government recruitment exercise and approved a fresh hiring process for 4,000 workers.
The decision followed a panel report on recruitment carried out by the defunct Local Government Service Commission. Secretary to the State Government, Prof Anthony Enoh, said the exercise was cancelled because the process was found to be badly flawed.
The government said the panel found problems including job racketeering, payments for employment slots, weak supervision and breaches of public service rules.
Governor Bassey Otu approved a new recruitment process to be handled under a transparent framework, with the state saying the fresh exercise should replace appointments made through the cancelled 2024 and 2025 processes.
The cancellation affects appointments into the local government service, not a general ban on public employment in the state.
