25 ISWAP Family Members Surrender To Troops In Borno
Twenty-five family members linked to ISWAP fighters have surrendered to Nigerian troops in Borno State, in two separate incidents reported around the end of August and early September.
Daily Post reported that four people surrendered to troops of 3 Battalion, Marine, at Combat Outpost Ladari on August 30. Another 21 people, described as seven women and 14 children, surrendered to troops at Mafa on September 2.
The report said the first group came from Arianna, Koloram Yerwa Kura and Tumbuma communities in Marte Local Government Area. They were taken into the custody of the 24 Military Intelligence Regiment for further action.
The second group reportedly fled the Yaganari enclave during clashes between rival ISWAP factions. They surrendered to troops of 112 Task Force Battalion at Mafa in Dikwa Local Government Area.
The latest surrenders were linked to military pressure on insurgent hideouts and internal disputes within the armed group. Security agencies are expected to screen the surrendered people before deciding the next steps.
