Suspected thugs attacked journalists after an All Progressives Congress rally in Kano State on Saturday, damaging a Radio Nigeria vehicle and leaving some occupants shaken.

The attack happened after the political gathering at the Sani Abacha Stadium, as the journalists were leaving the venue. The reports said the vehicle was carrying staff of Radio Nigeria’s Pyramid FM in Kano and a journalist from Guarantee Radio.

The attackers were said to have smashed the rear glass and other parts of the bus with machetes and knives. Daily Trust reported that the vehicle also carried three policemen who had been given a lift from the stadium.

One of the journalists, Yakubu Abubakar Gwagwarwa, said the presence of security personnel in the vehicle did not stop the attackers. He said the driver was wounded and some of the journalists were hit by broken glass.

The reports named the affected journalists as Shafiu Abdullahi Panshekara, Abdulmajid Habib Isa Tukuntawa, Yakubu Abubakar Gwagwarwa, Ibrahim Hussaini and Abdulbaki Ali Ahmed Sharifai.
