Ethiopian Airlines Plans 53 Weekly Nigeria Flights, Adds Port Harcourt Service

Ethiopian Airlines says it is increasing its Nigerian operation to 53 flights a week, with four weekly services planned for Port Harcourt.

The expansion would add a regular Ethiopian Airlines link for travellers and businesses in Rivers State and the wider South-South, while also raising the carrier’s Lagos and Kano frequencies. The airline already serves Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Enugu.

BusinessDay and Independent Newspaper Nigeria reported that Lagos will have 21 weekly Ethiopian Airlines flights, or up to three a day. Kano’s schedule will rise by four flights to 11 weekly services, while Port Harcourt is due to receive four weekly flights.

The carrier’s Nigeria general manager, Firiehiwot Mekonnen, said the additional capacity was intended to give passengers more flexibility and improve connections through Addis Ababa. For Port Harcourt passengers, the planned service would provide another route into Ethiopian Airlines’ network across Africa, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.

The reports also cited the airline’s expectation that more flights could support businesses around airports, travel and hospitality. Those wider economic outcomes will depend on how the planned services are rolled out and used.
