Jigawa Varsity ASUU Issues Two-Week Strike Ultimatum

Lecturers at Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, have given the Jigawa State Government two weeks to settle unpaid arrears and other welfare demands or face industrial action from September 15.

The ultimatum puts students at risk of another disruption if the government and the university branch of ASUU fail to reach a settlement before the deadline.

The union said the demand followed a special congress held on September 1 to review the implementation of the 2025 ASUU-Federal Government agreement. It asked the state government to pay accrued arrears from January 2026 to date.

The lecturers also demanded outstanding allowances, annual increments, promotion arrears, third-party deductions and the release of the approved 2024/2025 Earned Academic Allowance.

The statement was signed by the branch chairman, Idris Chiromawa, and secretary, Salisu Yunusa. It warned that members would begin industrial action if the issues were not resolved within the two-week period.

The warning comes as ASUU branches in other public universities continue to press governments over pay, allowances and the wider 2025 agreement.
