Troops Rescue Retired General’s Wife In Abuja, Arrest Two Suspects
Troops have rescued the wife of a retired brigadier general in Abuja after she was abducted from her home on September 1.
The rescue operation also led to the arrest of two suspected kidnappers near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council. The Army said troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition from the suspects.
The woman was identified in the reports as Mrs Adonkie, wife of Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, retired. She was said to have been taken from her residence at about 10.30pm, after which troops from the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison began a pursuit through the Aco Estate and Gosa Community axis.
The reports said the troops made contact with the kidnappers and rescued the victim around Angwan Sabo Village. The operation continued into September 2, when personnel from the 176 Guards Battalion and 197 Special Forces Battalion intercepted two fleeing suspects around Gaube.
The rescued woman has been reunited with her family, while the suspects remain in custody for profiling. Troops were also said to be continuing clearance and tracking operations in the area to find other members of the group.
The incident adds to the security pressure around parts of the Federal Capital Territory, where abductions along estate and village routes have repeatedly raised concern among residents.
