Gombe Tertiary Institutions Begin Two-Week Warning Strike

Unions in Gombe State tertiary institutions have begun a two-week warning strike over unpaid welfare entitlements and delayed implementation of wage agreements.
The Joint Union of Gombe State Tertiary Institutions said the strike began at midnight on Wednesday, September 2, after an earlier 14-day ultimatum expired.
The group brings together academic and non-academic unions in the state’s public tertiary schools, including COEASU, ASUP, SSUCOEN, SSANIP and NASU.
The unions are demanding action on arrears tied to the 2019 N30,000 minimum wage, 25 and 35 percent wage awards, the N70,000 minimum wage and earned academic allowances.
Leadership reported that the Gombe State University branch of ASUU had earlier given a similar ultimatum over unpaid allowances and welfare issues.
The unions warned that they could move to an indefinite strike if the state government fails to address their demands during the warning strike.
