Four Family Members Die In Kwara Building Collapse
Four members of the same family have died after a three-storey building collapsed in the Popo Giwa area of Ilorin, Kwara State, early Tuesday.
Emergency officials said eight people were initially trapped at No. 41 Popo Giwa Street, beside Gogoro Mosque. Four were rescued alive, while four bodies were recovered from the rubble.
The Kwara State Fire Service said it received the distress call around 5 a.m. and joined other emergency responders at the scene. The state emergency agency also confirmed the casualty figures.
Witnesses told reporters that the trapped family included the wife and children of a serving soldier. One child was rescued alive and taken for medical attention as responders continued clearing the debris.
The cause of the collapse had not been officially announced at the time of the reports. Authorities are expected to examine the site as part of efforts to prevent similar incidents in the area.
