Army Says Troops Killed Suspected Terrorist, Recovered Rifles In Plateau

Troops attached to Operation Enduring Peace killed a suspected terrorist and recovered rifles during a stop-and-search operation in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, the military said.

The operation took place on Saturday at Zak village, where Sector 2 troops intercepted a green Golf vehicle while acting on intelligence about criminal activity in the area.

Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the media officer for the joint task force, said soldiers found a concealed compartment in the vehicle dashboard. The driver allegedly refused to open it, ran into a nearby bush and was later shot after allegedly trying to disarm a soldier.

The items recovered included two AK-47 rifles, rifle magazines, two wooden rifle butts, nine magazine pouches, two camel bags, six jungle hats, a mobile phone and an ATM card. Vanguard and Daily Trust both reported the same Plateau operation and weapons recovery.

Major General Maxwell Dangana, Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, asked residents to keep giving security agencies timely information as troops continue operations across the joint operations area.
