President Bola Tinubu has ordered urgent federal intervention on the Benin-Agbor-Asaba road after severe congestion left motorists stranded on the route.

The directive followed reports of long delays on the road. Works Minister David Umahi visited Edo State on Tuesday for an on-site inspection and apologised to commuters affected by the condition of the expressway.

The Federal Ministry of Works said Tinubu also directed attention to the Ifaki-Kabba-Ado Ekiti road linking Ekiti and Kogi states. The ministry said corrective work was needed to restore movement on the affected roads.

Punch reported that Umahi’s media aide, Francis Nwaze, shared footage of the minister’s inspection of the congested section. Channels TV reported that the ministry linked the intervention to the hardship faced by motorists who had spent hours, and in some cases days, on the route.

The government said it would review concessioned federal roads and take steps to improve accountability on routes that remain in poor condition despite private-sector arrangements.
