Troops Foil Abduction Attempt, Rescue Nine In Zamfara
Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have foiled an attempted abduction in Unguwar Rogo, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, rescuing nine civilians, including an infant.
The operation followed a distress call that suspected terrorists had entered the community and attacked civilians travelling on a local route. The military said troops responded and forced the attackers to flee into nearby forest.
Two women sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and were taken for medical treatment. The military linked the attack to suspected terrorists led by a man identified as Mallam Shuaibu.
Daily Trust and Premium Times both reported the same rescue, location and operation. The incident happened on Sunday, August 16, according to the military account cited in the reports.
Zamfara remains one of the North-West states where security forces have been battling armed groups involved in kidnappings, village raids and attacks on travellers.
