Kwara Receives New Army Battalion As FG Steps Up Security Deployment

Kwara State has received a new Army battalion for Omu-Aran as the Federal Government expands military deployment in parts of the state affected by banditry and kidnapping.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq received the troops on Tuesday alongside senior Army commanders, including officers linked to the 9 Division and Operation Savannah Shield.

Daily Trust reported that the deployment followed President Bola Tinubu’s assurance that security would be strengthened in Kwara. The governor said five new Army battalions had been approved for the state, with the existing brigade expected to relocate to Bode Saadu.

Punch reported that the governor said another team was working in Patigi to identify a base for a further battalion. He thanked the Chief of Army Staff for the swift deployment and said the new unit would support efforts against banditry, kidnapping and other threats.

The governor said the state government would support the new formations as they settle in and begin operations.
