Aviation Unions Suspend Air Peace Picketing, To Meet Keyamo

Aviation unions have suspended their picketing of Air Peace after the intervention of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

The suspension is a new development after the earlier disruption to Air Peace flights, which NaijaTrend reported here. Union officials are expected to meet Keyamo in Abuja on Thursday.

Vanguard reported that Frances Akinjole, General Secretary of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, confirmed the suspension and said the minister had intervened.

The picketing had left passengers stranded at Lagos and Abuja airports after unions blocked access to Air Peace terminals. Premium Times reported that Air Peace, Enugu Air and United Nigeria Airlines either suspended or rescheduled flights because of the disruption.

The unions’ grievances include workers’ freedom to unionise and the alleged non-remittance of the five per cent Ticket Sales Charge. Air Peace had apologised to affected passengers and said travellers booked for later flights were being contacted with updates.
