INEC Extends Deadline For 2027 Governorship, Assembly Candidate Lists

INEC has given political parties more time to upload their governorship and State Assembly candidate lists for the 2027 general elections.

The electoral commission shifted the deadline to 6pm on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, after parties complained that the candidate nomination portal was slow because many users were trying to submit forms at the same time.

The extension was announced in a statement by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna. The commission said the extra time applies to the submission of Form EC9 by parties fielding candidates for governorship and state legislative contests.

INEC said parties had asked for more time because the pressure on the portal made uploads difficult. It said the adjustment was meant to allow parties to complete the process without shutting out valid submissions caused by technical congestion.

The commission also said the new deadline would not affect other scheduled activities for the February 2027 general election.

Vanguard reported that INEC also addressed concerns about stolen permanent voter cards in Osun, saying the cards could not be used to vote because accreditation would still require biometric checks.
