Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Abduction Of Military Recruits

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the July abduction of three newly graduated military recruits on the Anka-Bukuyum road in Zamfara State.

The suspects were named as Abubakar Mallan Abubakar of Gargam village in Bagega, Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, and Usman Muhammadu of Ajera in Ilorin, Kwara State. Police said they were arrested on August 1 during an intelligence-led operation.

The case involves recruits from Kebbi who were abducted along the Kwanan Mayanchi-Gurusu axis of the Anka-Bukuyum road. Police identified one of the victims as Kabiru Hassan from Ribah in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, while the two others were said to be from Zuru Local Government Area.

All three recruits have regained their freedom, according to the police. The command did not give full details of how they were released.

Police said one suspect made useful disclosures during preliminary questioning. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Kebbi Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia commended the officers involved and said the command would continue working to identify and prosecute others linked to the abduction.
