Wike Orders Demolition Of Suspected Criminal Hideout In Abuja
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has ordered the demolition of an illegal settlement near Karmajiji in the Kukwaba District of Abuja after security officials described the area as a suspected hideout for criminals.
Wike gave the directive on Friday after leading security officials to inspect the settlement following a meeting of the FCT Security Committee. He said intelligence reports suggested that suspected criminals returned to the area after attacks in other parts of the capital.
The minister directed FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi to work with the Department of Development Control on the demolition. He said the administration would not allow locations suspected of harbouring criminal activity to remain inside the city.
Daily Post reported that Wike described the settlement as a security risk because occupants could not easily be identified or located. Vanguard reported that the minister said anyone using such places to support crime would face the law.
The order is part of the FCT Administration’s wider security push around informal settlements and other areas officials believe are being used by criminal groups.
