Wike says up to N400bn needed to complete Abuja Millennium Tower
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike says completing Abuja’s long-delayed Millennium Tower could require between N300 billion and N400 billion.
Wike said the cost is too heavy for the Federal Capital Territory Administration to carry alone without starving other projects in the capital. He argued that the tower should be reconsidered as a national project and treated as a tourism asset.
The minister spoke after inspecting ongoing road projects in Abuja, including the extension of Collector Road CO1 and the Arterial Road N1 from Wuye District to Ring Road II.
Both source reports said the Millennium Tower was awarded during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Wike said talks with the contractor showed the size of the funding gap and that putting the full cost on the FCTA’s statutory budget would mean abandoning other work.
He said he had opened discussions with President Bola Tinubu on how to prevent the structure from remaining abandoned. The comments underline the scale of unfinished federal projects still competing for public funding in the capital.
