ADC asks INEC, police to explain alleged pro-Tinubu activity

The African Democratic Congress has asked INEC and the Nigeria Police Force to explain developments it says could weaken public trust ahead of the 2027 elections.

The opposition party questioned reports that a faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers linked to Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, could be involved in election logistics. It also questioned the reported appearance of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police at the launch of a pro-Tinubu group.

ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi said institutions expected to stay neutral must not appear to be working for the ruling party. The party asked INEC Chairman Prof Joash Amupitan to explain any engagement with the NURTW faction.

The ADC also asked the Inspector-General of Police to clarify whether the Lagos police commissioner attended the political event with official approval. It said disciplinary action should follow if there was no approval, and equal treatment should be given to opposition events if there was.

INEC and the police had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time covered by the source reports.
