Five Ogun polytechnic students abducted from private hostel

Five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, have been abducted after gunmen attacked a private hostel near the Ogun State institution.

The attack was reported around Wednesday evening along Paraga Road in Ipara-Remo, one of the communities close to the polytechnic. The two source reports said the gunmen fired shots during the raid and that the incident lasted about 30 minutes.

The Students’ Union Government said five students were affected. Some students gave higher figures, but the union’s confirmed number was five, and that is the figure NaijaTrend is using.

The polytechnic management cancelled Thursday’s examination after the attack and told students to remain calm while awaiting further official updates. The students’ union said the hostel was in a remote area surrounded by thick bush, which it described as unsafe for students.

Ogun police authorities were expected to give further details on the rescue effort. The immediate concern for students and parents is the safe return of those abducted and the security of hostels around the campus.
