Enugu State has approved the recruitment of more than 6,500 workers into academic, technical and administrative roles in public primary and secondary schools.

The recruitment also covers teachers for the state’s 267 Smart Green Schools, according to the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board.

Premium Times reported that ENSUBEB chairman Hyginus Banko announced the approval in a statement on Wednesday. He said the move was part of Governor Peter Mbah’s plan to provide staff for the Smart Green School programme and improve public education in the state.

The board said applicants for teaching and related roles must meet the required academic and professional conditions. These include a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, a relevant degree or HND with a postgraduate diploma in education, or a Nigerian Certificate in Education for specified subject areas.

Banko also said registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, or proof that registration is ongoing, is mandatory for relevant positions. Applicants for degree and HND roles must also have a valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate and show practical skill with information and communication technology tools.

The board said vacancies would also be available for holders of OND and Senior Secondary Certificate Examination qualifications in relevant positions.
