Ogun Students Block Expressway Over Colleague’s Killing
Students of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic in Itori, Ogun State, blocked the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway on Tuesday after a colleague was killed during an overnight robbery attack near the institution.
Punch reported that the students protested after suspected armed robbers attacked Eruku Community, where many students live. Daily Trust also reported that the protest caused gridlock on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway around the Wasinmi-Itori axis in Ewekoro Local Government Area.
Daily Trust said one student was killed and others were injured during the attack. Punch reported that videos of the demonstration circulated on social media and showed students occupying the highway in anger over the killing.
The reports place the protest at the polytechnic community and along the busy expressway, making it both a security and traffic disruption story for Ogun residents.
