UNIJOS Alumni Demand Justice After Graduate Is Killed In Jos

The University of Jos Alumni Association has asked security agencies to investigate the killing of Ibrahim Mbaya, a 25-year-old graduate of the university, after reports said he was attacked over an allegation of phone theft.

The alumni body called for the people responsible to be brought to justice, describing the killing as an attack on Mbaya’s right to life. Daily Trust reported that Mbaya, also known as Ibee, was killed on Sunday at an off-campus apartment behind the City of David area along Ring Road in Jos.

Daily Trust said a video of the incident showed suspects beating him with planks and canes and subjecting him to other forms of punishment. Punch reported that the alumni association issued its statement on Tuesday and urged the authorities to carry out a thorough investigation.

The reports identify Mbaya as a University of Jos alumnus and model. The case has added to concern over mob justice and attacks linked to unproven allegations around student communities in Jos.
