Police Rescue Passengers After Jos-Kano Highway Attack
Police in Kano say passengers abducted from a commercial bus on the Jos-Kano highway have been rescued after a gun battle with suspected bandits, but reports differ on the exact number brought back.
The attack happened around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Falgore Forest axis in Doguwa Local Government Area, between Gate Two Safer Highway and Dogo Dutse. The bus, a Toyota Hiace with registration number BKK 6824 XA, was travelling from Jos to Kano when armed men stopped it.
Punch and Daily Post reported that 13 of the 20 passengers were abducted and that police later rescued 10 of them. Daily Trust reported nine rescued passengers. All three reports said three passengers were still missing after the rescue operation.
The Kano police command said officers from Doguwa Division and tactical teams responded after a distress call. The reports said the attackers fled after an exchange of gunfire, while the rescued passengers were taken for medical checks and debriefing.
The command said search operations were continuing in nearby forest areas for the missing passengers and the fleeing attackers. No death was reported in the verified accounts.
