Troops Rescue Two Kidnap Victims In Taraba Patrol

Troops have rescued two kidnapped victims during a fighting patrol in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The operation was carried out by soldiers of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke after intelligence reports on suspected kidnappers around the Lande Jessi area.

The army said the patrol followed attacks on Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani villages, where armed men abducted two residents and took food items. The operation took place in the early hours of Saturday, July 26.

According to the military account, troops made contact with the kidnappers during the patrol and rescued the two victims. The victims were said to have spent about one week in captivity before they were freed.

The army identified the spokesman for the brigade as Lieutenant Umar Muhammad. It said the operation was part of continuing efforts to disrupt kidnapping networks in Taraba and nearby areas covered by Operation Whirl Stroke.

No casualty figure from the clash was given in the reports. The military also did not name the rescued victims, likely for security and privacy reasons.
